Curbside collection insurance · Nationwide

Curbside collection insurance for routes nationwide.

Hundreds of stops a day, helpers on the riding step, automated arms working inches from parked cars, and municipal contracts that dictate your limits. Route work has its own risk profile, and the program is built for it.

What goes wrong, and what responds.

The exposures below are the ones that actually generate claims in this segment. Each one maps to a specific coverage on the program. That mapping is the underwriting.

What happens & what responds
ROUTE

Stop-and-go route exposure

Frequent stops, backing maneuvers, early-morning darkness and pedestrians or cyclists alongside the truck make collection routes one of the highest-frequency auto exposures in trucking.Responds: Commercial auto liability

CREW

Helpers on the riding step

Riding-step falls, lifting injuries, needle sticks and struck-by incidents make collection crews a demanding workers' comp class. And a place where safety programs directly cut premium.Responds: Workers' compensation

ARM

Automated side-loader arms

Arms and forks strike parked cars, mailboxes, fences and low wires; carts get launched into windshields on windy days.Responds: General liability & auto liability

DRIP

Leaks along the route

Hydraulic fluid and hopper leachate dripping down a residential street is a pollution complaint waiting for a town's phone call.Responds: Transportation pollution liability

MUNI

Municipal contract requirements

Town and city contracts dictate additional-insured status, high limits and sometimes performance security. Miss one and you can't bid.Responds: Umbrella & contract-compliant liability limits

CART

Cart & toter inventory

Thousands of carts in the field represent real capital that can be burned, crushed or lost.Responds: Property / inland marine

One program, whole operation

This segment rarely travels alone.

Most operations that run curbside collection work also run other parts of the chain. The program underwrites the whole operation together. See the other segments below or start from the program overview.

Curbside collection insurance FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

For anything specific to your operation, call 978-897-7773 and ask about the Waste Industry Insurance Program.

What limits do municipal collection contracts usually require?
It varies by town, but Municipal contracts commonly require combined limits well above a standard $1M auto policy, plus additional-insured status for the municipality. An umbrella sized to your contracts is usually the efficient way to get there. Bring us the contract and we'll build to it.
Are seasonal and part-time helpers covered under workers' comp?
They need to be. Workers' comp applies to helpers regardless of season or hours, and misclassifying them creates audit and coverage problems. The program prices crews accurately and pairs coverage with safety practices that reduce riding-step and lifting claims.
Does safety equipment like backing cameras affect premium?
Yes. Cameras, telematics and documented route-safety programs reduce the accidents that drive collection pricing, and carriers in this program recognize them. That's the risk-management side of the program working alongside the insurance.
